When Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963, he determinedly brought our nation’s capital to the center stage amid the Civil Rights Movement. However, the powerful and often untold history of African American civil rights activism, aristocracy, and culture within Washington, DC, predates the contemporary era.

We have curated a one-of-a-kind African American history tour that gives visitors a chance to experience the richness of Washington, DC, through the eyes of our African American compatriots. During this tour, we guide you through many of Washington, DC’s highlights while considering the significance of the black perspective. Visit the remarkable sites rooted in our nation’s history thanks to the innumerable contributions of freed and enslaved African Americans. Look out for magnificent views of the United States Capitol, Freedom Plaza, Howard University and so much more!

After the tour, you will visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture. We provide access to the museum with reserved timed entry passes. Inside, you will find thousands of artifacts that are chronologically organized for a progressive and user-friendly experience.

PLEASE NOTE

Purchase of this tour includes free timed-entry passes to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. However, this is not an official Smithsonian tour. Additionally, entry to the property is provided  complimentary only after completing the sightseeing history tour. We do our best to keep large, same-party groups together on the same bus. We reserve the right to substitute our small-capacity tour buses with larger 55-passenger buses, depending upon demand and/or our tour schedule. The 55-passenger buses have bathrooms on board for your convenience.

Unfortunately, our shuttles are not wheelchair accessible, nor is there storage for baby strollers. If you have a wheelchair, please call us to make special vehicle arrangements for your tour. Some of our tours involve longer walks so if you like, you may stay on board the shuttle, near the landmark, without exiting the shuttle bus every time.
