Little Island, NYC: A Floating Oasis in Manhattan
Nestled just offshore from West 13th Street along the Hudson River, Little Island is a remarkable 2.4-acre public park and performance venue that blends inventive landscape architecture with immersive outdoor art and nature.
Design That Delights
Conceived in 2013 through a generous $113 million donation by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg, the park’s design by Heatherwick Studio and MNLA uses 132 sculptural, pot-shaped concrete pilings (15–62 ft tall) to create a “leaf floating on water” effect. Its varied elevations provide dramatic viewpoints and define winding pathways amidst lush plantings—including nearly 400 species of trees, shrubs, vines, and perennials.
A Cultural Stage on the Water
Little Island proudly hosts three distinct performance spaces, featuring an amphitheater with seating for around 700, and a broader schedule of arts programming curated by the Diller–von Furstenberg Family Foundation. Whether it’s community concerts, dance, or family-friendly shows, there’s always something captivating happening.
Free, Scenic, and Family-Friendly
Open daily from 6 am to 1 am, Little Island NYC offers free entry to all visitors. Guests can enjoy panoramic Hudson River views, a playful playground, and a serene picnic area—making it a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike..
