Rockefeller Center

The Rockefeller Center was built by the Rockefeller family and named after John D. Rockefeller, Jr. The center consists of 19 buildings and 22 acres of land in Midtown Manhattan. This complex includes the famous Radio City Music Hall, which has hosted such notable performers as Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald along with musicals, the Grammy and Tony Awards, Cirque du Soleil, the NFL Draft, the Rockefeller Christmas Show, and the Rockettes.

On the top of Rockefeller Center is the famous Rainbow Room Club and Restaurant and don’t forget about the Observation Deck. At the front of the building are gardens and a promenade as well as the location for the annual Rockefeller Christmas Tree. There is an ice-skating rink in the Lower Plaza of the center as well as the iconic bronze statue by Paul Manship called Prometheus Recumbent. Sculptures and art abound at Rockefeller Center, including the Statue of Atlas on Fifth Avenue and the steel vas-relief “News” over the entrance of 50 Rockefeller Plaza. For those interested in restaurants and shopping, there is an underground pedestrian concourse from 47th Street to 51st Street, which can be accessed from the lobbies of the six landmark buildings in the center and the restaurants around the skating rink.
