The African American Civil War Memorial Museum is located in the U Street district of Washington DC. This eponymous memorial was dedicated in July 1998 by the African American Civil War Memorial Freedom Foundation, commemorating the service of 209,145 African American soldiers, as well as approximately 7,000 white and 2,145 Hispanic soldiers, along with about 20,000 unsegregated Navy sailors, who fought together for the Union during the American Civil War.
